I have been mapping a 1300 acre lake and I have some areas on my map that are totally screwed up. How do I know which data points are corrupt? Do they turn black as you show in the example.

Not necessarily. Sometimes an area gets messed up because of a few really DEEP data points, instead of 0.0ft erroneous data points. They usually do stand out though, by being a very different color than all the other points around it.
Once you have a file open to edit, there are some additional shortcuts that can help find other bad data points in the same file. Tools -> Go To Extreme - Max Value, or Min Value, are a couple that I use most often.
